The Caspian ports connect Kazakhstan with the Caucasus and the routes beyond it. Cargo arriving by sea or waiting to be shipped goes through loading, discharge, transshipment and storage, and each of those stages carries its own risks.
What can go wrong in port
Cargo can be damaged when it is lifted, dropped or stowed badly, when containers are handled roughly, or when goods are left exposed during storage. Heavy and oversized cargo adds lifting risks of its own. When damage is discovered later, a record of the cargo’s condition at the port often helps to show where the problem started.
Our services in port
ADS Inspection & Consulting carries out surveys at Kazakhstan’s ports with our own surveyors. Typical work includes:
- damage surveys on cargo and containers;
- container surveys: watertightness, doors and locking gear, cleanliness and suitability for the cargo;
- supervision of port transshipment and stevedoring operations;
- checks on stowage, lashing and securing;
- risk assessment of lifting operations for heavy and project cargo, including wind turbine components.
Project cargo and wind turbine components
Blades, towers and nacelles for wind farms are large, expensive and easy to damage through poor lashing or a bad lift. For this kind of cargo the insurer usually wants key operations, port transshipment above all, done under independent supervision. We record the condition of the components before and after each stage and document the operation as it happens.
